The House That God Has Forgotten Part 51: Start a revolution!
First of all I have to write you all and thank you for your support. It means a lot to me to hear that you are going to your bosses, or the boss in charge of the area I am getting investigated, or my boss…and standing up for me. It makes me feel so touched to know that I have your support in this struggle, and I hope you still will. I hope you will keep on complaining and saying that it is unfair that I could maybe be taken to a hearing (PAN) if they decide to send me.
I hope honestly it goes so far that I do not get a warning, but as I said before…they are trying to make an example of me I fear, and I have a feeling they will succeed.
The taps on the shoulder, the “How are you?” and the “I think this is so fucked up!” make me beyond words feel like it is never the people that work at The House That God Has Forgotten is the problem, it is or bosses. They are the problem.
They know little about what we do everyday, the conditions that we work under or how we “fix” things to keep the ball rolling. We have to stop fixing things, we have to do things slower, we have to not work because we are short (Then you ring PA and say you are short) and above all you have to stay together united as a team when it comes push to shove,
My coworkers have sent mails to my boss, and have united as one to stand up for me. They have not gotten any response from our boss after sending those mails, which makes them even more upset because our boss is not taking us seriously.
A coworker said to us today: “No matter how much we fight with each other we must stand together when it is things like this.”
You will start to notice that the elevators will start moving slower, that people will be up at promenade after time (one guy today was up there 2 hours) and that you will have to stay after five, or get sent up there to replace someone who gets off work at five.
We have gotten tired of solving problems to make the bosses feel good about things, now we are going to play it by the book.
Today was the second day in a row that promenade went overtime. The bosses and personal administration said “Why? Why has it been like this the past couple of days?”
Because we have started doing things slower, by the book. No one is safe, no one wants to have the same thing that happened to me, happen to them.
Today my boss decided to sit down with me and a coworker and eat lunch. It was obvious she was testing the waters about how everyone in my group is feeling (pissed off) and we decided to talk about our kids instead. I personally had a hard time looking at her, because I thought it was a pretty ballsy move to sit with us (since the bosses always eat together at lunch and our little situation). I had to tell myself “keep ice in your stomach…keep ice in your stomach”
We found out now that they will not allow hourly workers to work Christmas and New Years for us. Is this so on your floor? Who is trying to make this point of screwing us out of time with our families? What ever happened to “keeping perspective”?
This year we will also not be getting our usual Kupe card from The Department of corrections. Budget cuts. They say we understand this because of the “stressed budget situation we have in our government agency”
I am ashamed when I will have to tell my wife what I got from my job for Christmas. Nothing.
BUT they will be selling trash from one of the prisons to buy…it seems like according to our warden it was a “big success”.
I often ask myself “why?”. “is it like this everywhere or just at The House That God Has Forgotten?” it feels like we got the bosses that were put on this earth to care the least about us.
We are short on our group at work so people are having to work more days in a row. The people that do our schedule have to sit there and scratch their heads and try to figure out how it is all going to be put together.
The worst part is that there are people that want to work with us. There are people who want to learn my job (all of them are needed), but no. It never happens.
And you sitting there on your floors. Working your ass of and not getting any praise or credit for it. Working in a terrible work environment. My best advice to you is to start writing mails. Have it documented. Take it up at your APT and see that it gets put in the protocol. Because if you ever have a problem you have it documented that it is a problem and has been.
We need to start a revolution. No one else is going to help us, only we can help ourselves. All of the talk and complaining needs to get written in E-mails and told to our bosses. Watch and wait, you will not get a reply and it will only give you more conviction to stand up for each other. (and don’t count on the HSO either)
What happened to me just as easily happens on the floors you work on. Do not give them the satisfaction of thinking that it is easy to do your job.
When was the last time your boss helped you hand out food? When was the last time your boss helped you out with promenade? Or for that matter even went out on the floor? Like I said before and I will say it again. “Our bosses have meetings on what new meetings they can go to”
When was the last time your boss called you into their office to do nothing other and say “Hey! I know it is tough and stressful your job, but you do a great job! I am glad you work for me.”
Now we just get dragged into the office like I did. To be told you did something wrong. That you are part of an investigation. That you are not allowed to do something. And that you will have a meeting about it where you will probably get punished.”
When you ask questions you will get the response “It is under investigation so I cannot answer that.”
Stop screwing each other over too.
We are all a team at The House That God Has Forgotten. If you do decide to write a report on someone, have the balls to tell them. It shows that you are loyal to those you work with. Don’t leave them in the dark; let them be prepared to defend themselves because that is what is going to happen. They will get called into the office, not to be told they did a good job, but to be interrogated for making a mistake.
I woke up yesterday with a migraine. When I felt better I started working on my CV and started looking for new jobs.
When I told my coworkers they asked me “What do you want to work with?”
I answered totally seriously… “Anything but The House That God Has Forgotten”
