The House That God Has Forgotten Part 69: We are looking for vegetables.
If you had a 20kr bill for every time there was a new rumour or scandal in The House That God Has Forgotten had gone around you would be a millionaire. A multiple millionaire.
You would think I would be the first to know with this blog and all, but usually, I am the last one to know. For the first time in a long time, I was one of the first…and that was just because I happened to be in the room at the time.
When the phrase is heard; “Well it took a long time to catch one this year” it makes you reflect. Last year they wanted to shoot police (This person contract got extended even after we pleaded to let this person go) and the newest wanted to blow stuff up, thought it was “fun” to run from a terrorist attack, and was racist with just about every national identity you can think of.
Luckily they got the axe after 24 hours.
People found guilty of crimes in criminal court also are not often, but they do happen At The House That God Has Forgotten. One even went to jail for a few months for beating his wife. (FUP very interesting reading I might add).
So my question is what do they think when they hire people?
I remember being back in the day the first summer The House That God Has Forgotten we had quite a few interesting characters (one wanted a tour) and while myself and the klienthändlaggare I had the interviews said “no” we were taken for our word.
Now in later years (Well like 3 years ago) and what I hear now. Even with a clear “no” and bad references, they get the job! What even makes me more disgusted, is that these people make the same as I do, or even slightly less. Something that scares me…to my core.
I think of the person that is in charge of hiring these people and I wonder what they are smoking. They seem to think they are in touch with reality, but they obviously live on another planet.
I think about the person that wanted to “blow up” things…people that went intro with him already noticed he was strange. It doesn’t matter what we say until something major happens…that is until they have a rant that finally has to put the nail in the coffin.
I know “We need these people so we can go on vacation” but still…do I need a guy like this? Or do we need the cop killer of last year who got his contract extended until October?
And the cop killer took a lot of “Please do not let him work here anymore!” to finally get him removed almost 6 months later.
So what do they think that hire these people? I think that they have the individual correction officers there as a show. The bosses and the human resources rep do not give a shit what we think, it just looks good.
It does not help that the human resources rep has never worked on the floor before. They do not give a shit who they put there! They live in their own little bubble and that is all that matters.
The wife-beater was in charge of security of the floor he was working (according to the investigation) on. So that one got pretty far.
Is it part of his colleague’s job to blow the whistle? There has been a recent case where a colleague blew the whistle and it took forever to get noticed. When it did happen…nothing happened to the person in question.
Are the bosses too afraid to take the stab of finding out if it is true or not? Is it a reflection of a bad boss if it happens by more than one person on your floor? Or is it just the bad hiring practices of The House That God Has Forgotten.
The classic sentence that I hear lately is “…and they are going to go to Corrections Officers school…”
It is told in this way that you shrug your shoulders and well… just give up.
This other classic is the “This person recommended me” syndrome. Where there is no background done, just the word of another person.
Sure sometimes this works…but other times it is a fucking disaster. A major shitshow where no one is allowed to do anything because it puts them in a bad position. This is more than one example of what I mean that is out there by the way.
And here is where we lie defenceless. With people that want to blow up things, and do diverse other things…which I will not get into because of my vague innocent until proven guilty stance.
The House That God Has Forgotten are masters of not sweeping up, but instead brushing the dirt under a cabinet.
When will the hiring process and the people that hire these people to have some sort of accountability? I find it odd that the person that has made or has had the final say has gotten a promotion.
I make good choices (the warden would be proud…I follow uniform regulations which seem to be priority one!). I make fucking great choices compared to them. Yet I am still here, in my little bubble being the last to know.
I think we have little or no respect in our line of work because look at the people…the people they are hiring. Saying it is ok to do certain things. Some beating their wives or whatever and getting found guilty in court.
I want to be the person that hires people. I would at least look and see if they did not break the law before being hired, or had the potential to do it.
I am going to kill the next person that comes into work with a book to read. You are making as much money as I do new guy and gal. Take my job a little seriously, please.
I would like to think the new HR representative is forced to wear a uniform like everyone else, hires decent people and listens to the people on the floor that hold the interviews.
It, however, gets worse and worse. I long for the ones from the past, that did a much better job. Maybe not perfect, but at least no one was blowing up buildings or wanting to do it.
I long for the days when I was hired before going to school. I had to speak to a psychologist amongst other things. Now they just take whoever no matter what they believe in.
I know I seem vague here, but I do not want to hang anyone out if it is not true. But if accusations are a testament to how low we have gotten are true…then The House That God Has Forgotten is in serious trouble.
That wall I am obsessed with should have a whole constitution on it. With things like:
“We do not tolerate blowing up things”
“We do not tolerate beating your wife (even though you got sent to jail)”
“No means no.”
“No wanting to kill police officers.”
“If you know someone that works here, you should not get special treatment”
They should just take down the pictures and put that on the wall. Even better have that in the job announcements all over the place.
But perhaps we should just be honest and write in those:
“Don’t worry if anywhere else thinks you are incompetent…we will hire you! We will even give you more money than people work here for over 10 years! We will NOT check your background, we will NOT listen to your references, and we do not discriminate. That is as long as you have a pulse. It would be hard to work if you are physically dead, but brain dead is actually ok.”
